Volunteering

We are 100% run by volunteers, all of whom are kind, caring, amazing, incredible individuals. 

They dedicate their time, energy, and passion to our mission of finding homes for dogs in need. Without our volunteers, we would have no Loved at Last and we would not be able to rescue the hundreds of dogs that we rescue each year.

HOW MANY VOLUNTEERS DO YOU HAVE?

We have just over 20 semi-permanent volunteers who help with everything from running our Facebook page to keeping track of finances to screening applications. There are also approximately 20 on-call volunteers who do Home Checks and 10 on-call volunteer fosters who provide temporary homes to our dogs.

WHAT KIND OF VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES ARE AVAILABLE?

We do not have a physical shelter, all of our volunteer positions are either promotional, administrative, tech, or research-based (except for fostering of course!) We are always looking for new volunteers to help and there is always something to do!!

DO I NEED ANY SPECIAL SKILLS?

Nope. Help is needed in a variety of areas and training is provided. Having said that, if you have a specific area of interest or knowledge, let us know and we can help find you the right fit.

DO I NEED TO COMMIT TO A CERTAIN NUMBER OF HOURS?

Nope. We have some volunteers who donate an hour a week and others who donate…well…a lot of time! But how much you would like to commit is totally up to you and don’t worry, if you give us a number now we won’t hold you to it if things change!

WHAT SPECIFIC POSITIONS DO YOU HAVE AVAILABLE?

We are currently looking to fill the following positions:

Adoption Facilitator(s) – review and approve applications, send approvals and invoice the rescuer, and answer rescuer and adopter questions/request information from rescuer and adopter

Airport Pick Up (US & Canada) – transport dog to foster home or meet somewhere to transfer

Drivers (US & Canada)  – transport dogs to and from the airport to the border or the broker’s office

Drivers (US & Canada) – transport dogs to and from the airport and their foster homes

Finalization Manager – connect with airport greeters and post-adoption coordinators

Fosters (US & Canada) –  foster dog(s) in transit to Vancouver for one or two nights.

Foster app screeners – read prospective foster applications and make notes for the rest of the team.

Foster support– make follow-up contact with foster families for well-being checks and dog updates.

Gofundme Coordinator – create and oversee Gofundme fundraising initiatives.

Home Checkers (virtual) – perform home visits virtually, by way of video chat with applicants.

Phone Interviewers – spend as little as one hour a week calling potential applicants about their adoption applications

Poster Makers – assist in making posters for adoptable dogs to be shared across social media.

Rescue Coordinators – create biographies for adoptable dogs, review adopter applications, and coordinate with rescuers abroad.

Airport Coordinators (US & Canada) – coordinate and train airport greeters, be available by phone when rescues arrive in case of issues, and be familiar with import processes (guidance will be provided for processes.
